Murphy, Mr. James, age 80, passed away June 14, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center.
Mr. Murphy was born Feb. 7, 1932 to the late Tom and Mary Murphy in Wabbaseka, Arkansas. He was a resident of Flint, MI for most of his life.
He was employed at T.J. Rogers Construction for many years before retiring. He loved fishing and was a people-person. He always had a story to tell. He would always say "It's only two ways; either you're right or you're wrong." He only had a 3rd grade education, but he was very smart. He had a photographic memory and memorized the Holy Bible word for word, and loved quoting scriptures.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife: Janice Murphy; two daughters: Joyce Murphy and Pamela Murphy; four sons: Autry (Deborah) Murphy, Tony (Janice) Murphy, Cedric Murphy, Anthony (Vessie) Murphy, all of Flint, MI; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister: Cora Booth of Flint, MI; 3 brothers: Robert (Patsy) Murphy of Houston, TX, Floyd (Barbara) Murphy of Long Beach, CA, and Cloyd (Jo Ellen) Murphy of Little Rock, Arkansas; close nephews: James Rideout, Sr., Major Booth, David Booth, and Freddie Lee Booth; special friends: Willie and Barbara Wilbanks; the residents of Slidell Senior Housing; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
James was preceeded in death by 3 sons: Larry Murphy, Tyrone Murphy, and Sherman Murphy; parents: Tom and Mary Murphy; and 17 siblings.
Visitation will take place Friday, June 22, 2012 from 11am until 8pm in the Comfort Chapel of Swanson Funeral Home. A service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Second Friendship Baptist Church at 11am with a 10am family hour.
